We value positive relationships with parents and carers to help develop better social and emotional skills in children. We know that when children are engaged with their learning, they attend school more regularly, leading to better long term outcomes.

For parenting and counselling services, visit the Family Support page, and for direction and clarity on regulations, processes and procedures at our school, read the Sydney Catholic School policies.

Working in partnership and forging positive parent relationships is a key priority at St Vincent’s Catholic Primary School Ashfield.

In Learning
At the beginning of the school year, parents and carers are invited to attend our Parent Information and Meet the Teacher evening. This evening is an opportunity for the principal to address parents on the schools learning plan for the year, for parents and carers to be introduced to their child’s teacher, to learn about student expectations, to receive an overview of the term and to ask any questions. Once a term our classroom doors are also open to parents and carers to observe learning in action. These open classrooms give parents insights into how our Writing and Mathematics lessons are arranged and guided.

In Communication
At St Vincent’s many communications such as messages, reminders and announcements are sent out using the Compass app. Through the app, parents and carers will also receive the fortnightly school newsletter. Our newsletter keeps families informed of important information, events and celebrations happening at St Vincent’s. Every Friday morning, a whole school assembly is held on the school playground. Parents and carers are invited to join us.

Parents and Friends (P&F) meetings are held each term. Sometimes there are guest speakers who talk on topics of general or educational interest. New parents are always welcome to attend any P&F meeting.

Children love to see their parents involved at the school:

  • parent involvement contributes to the building of our school community, and helps to create a happy learning environment for our children.
  • research has shown that parents are the first and most important educators or their children.
  • parents and teachers working together positively affects the educational performance of students, increases self-esteem, and creates an environment where home and school operate in partnership.
