Welcome to St Vincent’s Catholic Primary School Ashfield. This website will give you an insight into our vibrant and inclusive learning community.
St Vincent’s is a systemic Catholic primary school located in Ashfield and part of the Archdiocese of Sydney. It was established in 1870 and for nearly one hundred years was administered by the Sisters of Charity.
St Vincent’s is a multicultural school which embraces the motto ‘Learning Together’, encouraging a spirit of mutual cooperation, respect and the unity of a vast range of cultural groups learning and celebrating together. St Vincent’s is a one/two-stream school catering for boys and girls from Kindergarten to Year 6.
At St Vincent’s, we strive to personalise student learning to gain optimum growth. It is through knowing our students and developing a positive relationship with them that we challenge and engage them to ask questions and learn from their mistakes.

History Our school was founded in 1881 by the Sisters of Charity as was known as St Charles’ Primary School. In 1894, the school continued to be administered by the Sisters of Charity but became St Vincent’s Catholic Primary School when the parish was placed in the care of the Vincentian Fathers. This occurred after the original school buildings were destroyed by fire and a new school building was erected. This building now serves as the school and parish hall.
Embracing our history and the charisms of the Sisters of Charity and Vincentian Brothers, here at St Vincent’s, we aspire to actively live out our values of:
St Vincent’s Catholic Church Ashfield Our parish priest – Fr Joti Bilowalu CM, arrived from Fiji and started his ministry at St Vincent’s in 2018. He is very supportive of the school community and is actively involved in celebrating liturgical and other special events in the life of the school. Fr Joti has a strong commitment to the spiritual development of the students, staff and parents at St Vincent’s, Bethlehem College and De La Salle College. The parish and our precinct of schools are committed to building strong relationships and developing a rich faith community.
